The upgrade of the pavements of the K. Karamanli street in Nikaia is based on the clear organization of the longitudinal and transverse movement whilst also making planting areas denser.
A key feature of the intervention is that it allows for the strong, continuous movement, parallel to the road. Perpendicular to this, we have interposed walkways for access to properties, or small spots (plateaus) with seating areas for resting. Planting areas form a zone between the longitudinal movement of pedestrians and road traffic. In addition to organizing the relationship between longitudinal and transverse alignments, this zone also serves as a visual and acoustic filter between them.
