The proposal is based on three key principles – strategies.
The first relates to the formation of the coastal front as a single zone of three distinct sections. The two zones, in the north and south, organize two beaches of different scale and character, while the intermediate section is designed as a promenade.
The second basic compositional gesture is the strengthening – enhancement of the main “seams” – the axes that is which connect the village with the sea, and other villages of Pelion, with constructions in the sea.
The third strategy seeks to unify the individual interventions-sections and establish a measure of spatial organization. This is attempted through the introduction of a grid for the placement of lighting fixtures, i.e., through the rhythmic repetition of an element of urban infrastructure.
However, the main aim is not simply to redesign, reorganise and incorporate new materials and uses into the Milina coastal front. The primary aim is to consciously construct a new cultural landscape for southern Pelion in general and Milina in particular; a landscape that will reflect the unique combination of maritime and terrestrial identity.
